Notated Music (Scores)

Notated or Printed Music (Scores) in the Sturgeon Music Library

All notated music is considered a "score," including etude books and K-12 textbooks with call numbers in the "MT" classification.

Useful keywords for catalog searching

  • "vocal score" indicates any score with a part for voice(s) with a keyboard part lined up together.
  • "score" generally means full score or printed music with one part, e.g. "score and part" for a violin and piano sonata.
  • "part" or "parts" indicates music for more than one performer using separate scores, including music for one soloist with a piano version (reduction) of an orchestral accompaniment.

Online Scores (Classical Music Library)

UMU subscribes to a subscription-based collection of online scores called "Music Online:Classical Music Library."  You can find pieces through the library's catalog or directly through the database's search engine.  (Login required from off campus)

Recorded Music (Audio Recordings)

Use the library's catalog to find call numbers for compact discs in Sturgeon Music Library or links to recordings available through subscription-based databases such as Naxos Music Library.

Use Advanced Search or click on Modify Search from the search results page to select Material Type: Musical Recording.

Recorded Music (Video Recordings)

DVDs of music performances and documentaries about music are available for checkout from the Sturgeon Music Library and online via subscription-based databases.

To search for items in the library's catalog, select Audiovisuals as a material type after clicking modify search or Advanced Search.
