Student Organization: UMU SAGE (Sexuality and Gender Equity)
The newly formed (2023) SAGE Student Organization is a merger of two student organizations, G.E.M. and Pride. Family and Allies are welcome.
The university offers an interdisciplinary minor in Gender and Sexuality Studies that examines attitudes and structures surrounding gender identity and sexual experiences.
At the University of Mount Union, diversity is firmly rooted in the University’s mission to prepare students for fulfilling lives, meaningful work, and responsible citizenship.
At the University of Mount Union, we continuously strive to welcome, accept, and respect all people. We believe that through the union of disparate perspectives, we strengthen our community, facilitate global enlightenment, and enable collective self-discovery. As such, we embrace diversity and inclusiveness to facilitate the development of ideas, the advancement of global perspectives, and to create a greater understanding and acceptance of all people. We actively promote a diverse and inclusive environment that obliges mutual respect and positive engagement to effectively enrich learning and living for our students, faculty, staff, administration, and community.
As members of the University of Mount Union community, we pledge to:
Housing at the University of Mount Union
All students, regardless of academic class standing, age, sex, sexual orientation, race, religion, nationality, gender identity, or gender expression, etc. will be able to participate in gender-inclusive housing. Students will be asked, but not required to reveal, their reasons for opting to live in gender-inclusive housing. Students in same-sex relationships can already live together. Elliott Hall is available for LGBTQIA+ students who choose to live there.
The University of Mount Union welcomes students of diverse backgrounds, including students identifying within the LGBTQ community. Students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual/agender, and/or pansexual can find useful resources below.
The UMU Ally Training program is an ongoing, voluntary training open to anyone interested in learning about sexual and gender minority (LGBTQ+) individuals. Individuals who complete the 1-hour training have received a placard to display. For more details, contact the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
