Understanding & Securing Funding

  • If you are interested in a grant from the Federal Government, it is best to speak to a grant agency representative. Often the representative will guide you through the process and/or make you aware of other federal grants that would best fit your needs. Be aware that some federal grants are actually loans.
  • Learn how to write a grant proposal by using Candid's free resources, such as "How Do I Write a Grant Proposal?"
  • As a nonprofit organization, you must first register as a nonprofit organization. You will be required to have a Nonprofit Employer Identification Number (EIN) assigned by the IRS.
  • It is also good practice to have a Dun and Bradstreet Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) for your nonprofit organization in order to apply for grants.
