Copyright Guidelines: Copyright Basics

This libguide will give basic copyright advice for faculty, staff and students.

Understanding Copyright

This guide provides information to help students, staff and faculty manage rights and responsibilities under the U.S. Copyright Law.

Copyright involves the concept of Fair Use and incorporates the TEACH Act for educators. Distance learning and face-to-face teaching also have different copyright law restrictions.

Copyright on Campus Video

You can avoid copyright complications by using a persistent link directly from our University of Mount Union databases (articles, ebooks, videos, music, etc.) and copying it directly into your D2L course page or syllabus.

When you are deciding about incorporating material in your course, a best practice is to use the Copyright Checklist below.

Infobase Learning Cloud offers Copyright, Copyleft & Fair Use, a 4 hour self-paced class on copyright. In the class, participants learn

  • Overview and history of copyright
  • Fair use
  • Copyright law and new technologies
  • Finding material that can be used
  • Innovation & copyright
  • Copyright for educators
