Library 101: Interlibrary Loan

About

Most types of library material needed for the purposes of study, instruction, information, or research may be requested on loan or in photocopy from another library.

If the item you need is not available at Mount Union, search OPAL (our consortium), then OhioLINK (our statewide academic consortium) or SearchOhio (a public library consortium). Mount Union is part of OPAL, a 27 library catalog consortium that uses the Innovative Interfaces software system. As part of the OhioLINK system, our users may borrow materials directly from all OPAL libraries as well as any of the more than 100 OhioLINK libraries throughout the state of Ohio. SearchOhio gives access to approximately 25 of the largest public libraries in the state.

Items not available from Mount Union, or through OPAL, OhioLINK, and SearchOhio, may be requested through interlibrary loan for free.

It is not feasible for any one library to be self-sufficient, and in the belief that the furtherance of knowledge is in the general interest, interlibrary borrowing and lending is regarded by Mount Union as essential to library service.

For our Interlibrary Loan Policy, see University Policies.
